Independent editors definitely are part of the publishing landscape now. Is it an extra burden of expense for writers? You can look at it that way, or you can see it as a level of professional help that was never before available.—Donald Maass, Donald Maass Literary Agency
Welcome to June, everyone.
A few of you have commented lately that you’d “love to be a fly on the wall” in the offices of the folks behind the publishing curtain. Well, you’re in luck. This month I’m running a weekly series of in-depth interviews with talented and important figures in the writing and publishing landscape.
We’re starting off next Monday with a bang: a double interview with heavy-weight literary agent and author Donald Maass and high-level independent editor (IE) Lisa Rector. . .who just happen to be husband and wife.
What’s it like running a literary household across the spectrum from IE to agent? How do they see the current publishing industry in all its complexity, from their different perspectives? What is the real significance of ebooks, POD, self-publishing, and the roles of both independent editors and literary agents in the changing landscape? And—perhaps most importantly—would Lisa ever edit Don’s manuscripts and, if she did, what noise would he make?
Join us this coming Monday for:
Tension on Every Page: the Donald Maass & Lisa Rector interview
Kudos to you, Victoria. I’m sure scoring an interview with Donald Maas is no small feat! I’m looking forward to reading it. As far as his wife, the editor, well, I already have a pretty good editor…
Thanks, Jeffrey! And your editor is RIGHT THIS VERY MINUTE working on your novel. I wouldn’t even have paused to read the new comment, but I saw it was you.
This is going to be awesome! You’re so great to do this, and that’s fantastic that you got an interview with them. 🙂
What a coup for you to get Donald Maas and Lisa Rector for an interview! Look forward to it on Monday. 🙂
That’s worth unlurking long enough to say I’m waiting with bated breath for Monday! 🙂
