Victoria:
I have begun work on a memoir (working title, “Alcoholic Marriage.”) I have taken one chapter and tried to create a marketable personal essay of 2,000 words.
I’m interested in the cost of a full edit of this piece in the near future. Then, I want to look at perhaps 5,000 to 7,000 words of the first chapters of the memoir sometime in early 2011. I want to produce the best I can before asking for edits.
My writing has emotion, and the characterization is good, I believe the dialogue is good, but the copy-editing mediocre at best and the tension arc is perhaps debatable. I take online courses at Gotham, work part-time as a clinical social worker, and am 71.
This will be Christmas gift from my husband, so I don’t have unlimited resources, but I do intend to save money for an edit before I send my book anywhere. I like your web site, photograph and credits. A friend from IWW sent me your address.
I have had two personal essays published by the Boston Globe Sunday magazine, and a short story of mine won the annual newspaper contest of the Boston Phoenix. I’m not a new writer, but I know have a lot to learn.
Sincerely,
Claire Drapkin
P.S. My computer connection would not permit me to reach you by contact mode, so I am sending this inquiry in this fashioh. I hope this does not inconvenience you.
Hi Claire! I’m responding to you over email. Odd about the Contact button not working.
